Breaking news: Niger Delta militants bomb another pipeline

– The Niger Delta militants have blown up the Escravos in Delta state

– The source described the bombing as a “big blow” to oil production in the country

The Cable informs that the Niger Delta militants have bombed a section of the Escravos gas trunkline behind salvation city, near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West local government area of Delta state.

One of the sources told reporters that the incident occurred in the early hours of May 20, Friday.

He defined the attack as a “big blow” to gas production in Nigeria, disclosing that the facility belongs to phase two of the Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline owned by the Nigerian Gas Company Limited (NGC).

Eric Omare, a spokesperson for the Ijaw Youth Council, said the attack happened around the village of Ogbe Ijoh, near Warri.

“The explosion occurred last night on the pipeline belonging to NNPC,” said Omare.

The pipeline links the Escravos oil terminal to Warri and supplies gas to various parts of the country.

Nigeria has seen renewal in militant attacks in the oil-rich southern region in the last few weeks, with strikes on pipelines and oil facilities.

These bombings reduced oil output to the lowest in almost three decades and increasing a rally in world crude prices.

The government of President Buhari has directed his army to deal with the militants with a heavy hand.

The new militant group  Niger Delta Avengers, that appeared recently, said they have nothing to do with older militants and unveiled the list of their demands.

Update On Trial Of The Senate President Bukola Saraki

The trial continued with the cross examination of the witness which focussed on count 11 where the witnessed gave details of how the said Three Hundred and Seventy Five Million Naira loan obtained from the guaranty trust bank was converted into Dollars and Pounds sterling.

The witness told the tribunal that Saraki used the Three Hundred and Seventy Five Million Naira loan to buy Number Eight and Number Seven Wick taker Street, London in 2011 and 2015 respectively.

When asked by the council to the defence, Paul Usoro how the commission came about the said properties which formed part of count 11.

The witness say in the course of the investigation, there obtain unofficial information from their London property from their foreign partners who are yet to feed them with official document but promise to do so in the future.

The witness also confirmed that there are controversy on the tittle document of a property mentioned in count 5. 

He said there are five people claiming the property. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday the 25th of May 2016.

FA Cup Final: Wayne Rooney Hoping To Make It Third Time Lucky

The 2016 Emirates FA Cup Final between Crystal Palace and Manchester United will kick off at 5.30pm on Saturday 21 May at Wembley Stadium connected by EE.

The Federal Government will assist Murtala Muhammed Foundation, which has already been providing support to the families of the missing Chibok girls and which runs a trauma and counselling centre in Kano, will also be involved in ongoing work with Amina, monitoring her progress and highlighting any additional support she requires.

Adekunle Gold Is Ready To Leave Olamide’s YBNL

YBNL leader, Olamide has proven to be a man of his word especially with his relationship and deals with his signed artists.

He’s repeatedly said he only signs a 2-year deal with all his artistes after which they are free to go.

With the exit of Lil Kesh from the label on the expiration of his deal in April 2016, we now have feelers that talented singer, Adekunle Gold may be the next in line to leave the label.

Sources have now told us that Adekunle Gold is next in line. ‘After his album drops in June, Kunle may leave YBNL to focus on his own label too’.

Five days after meeting an administrative bail condition granted to him, the former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode is still under detention, his special assistant on media, Jude Ndukwe has said.

In a statement made available to NAIJ.com, Ndukwe said he is appalled by the continued detention of his principal.

He said that the detention of the former minister and most of the vocal members of the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is a “dictatorial, vengeful, vindictive and scurrilous” use of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as a tool by the All Progressives Congress led administration.

“We are appalled by this risible development but not surprised at all by it because that has been the hallmark of this current administration. Rather than work to improve on its reprehensible anti-democratic record, the Buhari-led administration has insisted on continuing in its self-engineered free nose-dive into the abyss of autocracy and the infamy of gross abuse of citizens’ rights,” Ndukwe said.
Condemning the prolonged detention of the former minister by the anti-graft agency, Ndukwe said that the disregard for the rule of law by the Buhari-led administration must stop to enable the growth of democracy in Nigeria.

FG bows to NLC pressure, sets up committee to review fuel price

The federal government may have bowed to pressure from the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) as it has agreed to review the pump price of petrol.

The Cable reports that this was resolution after a two-day meeting with the labour leaders which ended on Tuesday night.

Reports say the federal government has now set up a new committee to review the new pump price of petrol and the national minimum wage.

It was gathered also, that this committee will work with the Joe Ajaero-led faction of the NLC with a view to adjusting the current N18,000 minimum wage.

This new development does not in anyway stop the proposed industrial action by the NLC, though, as the Ayuba Wabba-led faction has vowed to go ahead with the proposed strike in spite of the court injunction against them.

The protest is expected to kick off at about 8am on Wednesday in Abuja at the union’s secretariat.

The union’s head of information, Benson Upah, also categorically told The Cable that: “‎NLC’s position has not shifted. The strike will go on tomorrow.

“Quote me the strike will go on tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has asked Nigerians masses and civil to ignore the labour unions and protest against the increment of pump price of petrol.

The CNPP in a statement issued on Tuesday, which was jointly signed by its national chairman, Alhaji Balarabe Musa and the secretary general, Chief Willy Ezugwu, also accused both the federal government and the labour unions of insincerity in the matter.

The statement made available  reads: “We are taken aback that the federal government could hurriedly obtain a judgment from the Industrial Court, with readiness to enforce same overnight while the government is yet to obey many other court orders against it.

“For instance, the PRP was deregistered as a political party by the Indepedent National Electoral commission (INEC) and a court of competent jurisdiction ordered its re-registration but the INEC is yet to obey the order.

“Today, the federal government selects which court judgment to obey and the ones against it are discountenanced.

After attacks on government installations, members of the new militancy group in the oil rich Niger Delta, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA)  have gone underground following a massive manhunt for them by the Army, Navy and other security agencies.

The group blew up Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, facilities,

NDA in a statement by its spokesperson, Madoch Agbinibo, claimed that it was on ground and neither the Federal Government nor ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, could stop it from crippling the nation’s economy.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari gave the military marching order to crush the group.

But according to a Vanguard source “People say the headquarters of Niger Delta Avengers is in Delta State. I do not think so, but I know that they have their network of information gathering and are conscious of the directive by President Buhari to security agencies to crush the militant group.”

The report claimed the militants have also not responded to mail inquiries by as it other channels of communication have also been shut down, an indication that it has temporarily gone out of circulation.

The Niger Delta Riverine Security headed by Commander Bibi Oduku, said members of Niger Delta Avengers to face the full wrath of the law.

“Niger Delta Avengers is a criminal and devilish group, which is interested, in crippling economic activities in the Niger Delta and Nigeria. I advise Niger Delta youths not to fraternize with these criminals,” he told Vanguard.

While being asked about David Cameron, British Prime Minister, comments that Nigeria is fantastically corrupt he says: “I’m not going to demand an apology from anyone, what I’ll demand is a return of assets.”

 The president said: “By the end of our summit tomorrow, we should be able to agree on rules-based architecture to combat corruption. Corruption does not differentiate between developed and developing countries. It is a serious threat to good governance, peace and security. I call for establishment of an anti-corruption infrastructure that will trace and return stolen assets to their countries of origin.

“Unfortunately, repatriating stolen assets is tedious, time-consuming, costly. It entails more than just signing of bilateral agreements.

“The anti-corruption agencies have been revitalized to tackle the monster… A radical departure from the past. Our administration has zero tolerance for corruption…We have strong reserve to tackle it, even if many feathers would be ruffled.”

Global leaders from civil society, business and government who are championing the fight against corruption gathered for a major conference.

 The leaders are set out their commitments to end impunity, prevent corruption, empower victims and support activists, in an effort to bolster good governance and transparency and support sustainable development.

The conference precedes the Anti-Corruption Summit: London 2016 on Thursday May, 12, hosted by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, which aims to agree a package of practical steps to expose and drive out corruption.
